Vaila, Annie, Joshua and Jessica were the talk of the school in November and December 2022, when they made the journey to London to take part in the Britannica Magazine Schools Quiz. They were one of 4 teams out of sixty, UK wide, that had taken part in the competition and it was a great achievement to make it into the final. After initially finding out about the result there was a moment of concern as to whether they could go to London as it was quite an expense. However, due to the initiative of Mrs Leonard starting a Go Fund Me page on Facebook, and the incredible generosity of the people of Orkney, over £3000 was raised and off they all went along with Mrs Leonard, Mrs Hibbert and one of the parents, Mrs Pirie. During the quiz they had a visit from Orkney's MP Alistair Carmichael who was delighted to see the children get so far in the competition. Everyone enjoyed a trip to the West End to see Elf:The Musical the evening after the quiz...a wonderful way to wind down after an exciting day! In three days, two of which were spent travelling, the group managed to cram in some fun activities to make it a trip to remember and the children came away with a finalists trophy which now sits proudly in Mr Thomson's office for all to see. A wonderful time was had by all and the school is incredibly proud of the children for getting that far. If you get a chance, ask them about everything they did on the trip - they will be more than happy to tell you all about it!!!
